Turning 90, Odd Fellow member has belonged to organization 60 years

Guy Burdick

Guy Burdick Sr. was born April 27, 1927 on Potter Road in Mayville to Wilbur and Irene Burdick. He has lived most of his life in Mayville.

He went to Chautauqua Central School, then joined the Navy in December 1943. He was on the USS610 LST landing ship and served in the Pacific Theatre. He was discharged in February 1945.

After returning home he worked for General Electic in Erie, Pennsylvania. After that, he ran the Kendall gas station that is now Andriaccio’s at Chautauqua. Then he painted homes and businesses in the Chautauqua area for 30 years.

Burdick married Lucille Gueer in Buffalo on Nov. 27, 1948. They have three children, Guy Jr. of Mayville; Cathy Behrent of Commerce City, Colorado and Mary Reynolds of Falconer, along with seven grandchildren. Burdick has one sister, June Woolett of Fredonia.

For more than 50 years, they spent half the year in Florida and the other half in Mayville.

Burdick belongs to the Mayville American Legion, Mayville VFW 8647, where for more than 40 years he served in the VFW color guard. He also served the Chautauqua Fire Department for more that 60 years in all capacities.

He was an Odd Fellow and a Rebekah for 60 plus years and was a Patriot Militant, a part of the Odd Fellows.

Burdick loved his dogs and has always had one or many at a time, in addition to loving to go deer hunting.
