Cattaraugus County Department of Aging announces senior forum

ELLICOTTVILLE — Cathy Mackay, director of the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging/NY Connects, has announced that the agency’s 23rd Annual Senior Forum and Public Hearing will be held Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Ellicottville Senior High School beginning at 9 a.m. The forum is open to all persons age 60 and older who are residents of Cattaraugus County.

The day’s events include the annual Public Hearing, which will be held from 9 to 10 a.m., a series of workshops during two time periods, lunch provided by Sysco Foods, and afternoon entertainment.

Following the public hearing, participants will be provided with the opportunity to choose from the following workshops: “How to be Safe in an Unsafe World” by Chris Baker; “Low Bridge, Everybody Down…the Story of the Genesee Valley Canal” by Craig Braack; “Paper Embroidery” by Wendy Pettengill; “Cooking for One or Two” by Chef Tricia Lash; “Diet Fads” by Candy Work, RPA-C, RD, CDN; and “A Latino Fiesta!” by Katie Ambuski and Mariel Grey.

Time will be allotted before lunch for participants to take advantage of various health screenings and to visit informational displays. Department of Aging/NY Connects staff will also be on hand to take ID photos and answer questions.

Reservations for lunch must be made by Aug. 11, at any Senior Wellness and Nutrition program dining site or by calling the Department of the Aging/NY Connects office in Olean at 373-8032 or 1-800-462-2901. This year’s luncheon menu includes appetizers, pulled pork, roll, coleslaw, side salads, and strawberry delight. There is no pre-registration required and there is no charge for the workshops.

Judd Sunshine’s Erie Canal concert program will be the afternoon entertainment. There will also be door prizes drawn at the end of the day for which you must be present to win.
