WESTFIELD — Three Laureate Alpha Pi sorority sisters earned the Beta Sigma Phi Order of the Rose honor at the May chapter meeting held at the Westfield YWCA.

Amy Begier, Carol Best and Lynn Stetson each received the Order of the Rose award. This award is presented by the Laureate Alpha Pi chapter in gratitude and esteem to sisters for their devotion and fidelity to the ideals of Beta Sigma Phi.

Each sister has been an outstanding active member of the chapter for fifteen years. A ceremony was led by Clara Winkelman and Gwen Haskin, chapter treasurer and president, respectively. Haskin presented each sorority member honoree with an insignia pin, yellow rose and a certificate from the International sorority.

Officers were also installed at the May meeting. The incumbent officers will continue for the 2017 – 18 sorority year. They are, Gwen Haskin, president; Elena Marsala, vice president; Clara Winkelman, treasurer; and Tonja Dodd, secretary.

Beyond the May meeting, the chapter held its annual family picnic at Ottaway Park with 35 were in attendance, including sisters, family members and guests. The event was hosted by sisters Lynn Stetson and Carol Brown. Everyone enjoyed a delicious picnic meal and participated in the yardstick auction game. Sister Barb Van Dyke’s husband, Jimmy was the enthusiastic auctioneer for the fun event. The auction raised money for the chapter for future community giving and social events.

Additionally, at the picnic, attendees voted on the best graphic that will showcase the 2017-18 sorority theme and be placed on the cover of the chapter yearbook. Judy Stratton was the winner with a lovely depiction of next year’s theme, In Touch with Tomorrow.

The chapter will start up its 2017-18 sorority year on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. The Beginning Day will be held at Gwen Haskin’s farm in Westfield. Yearbooks will be handed out at the kick-off social.
