This summer seven boys from Fredonia Boy Scout Troop 267 learned leadership skills they will use for the rest of their lives.

Located in Smethport, Pennsylvania, the Elk Lick Scout Reserve hosted the boy-led Silver Stag National Youth Leadership Training, a six-day, five-night outdoor experience geared toward developing present and future leaders of Scouting.

Troop 267 Scout Chris Annear was on the boy-led staff, having previously completed the program. Adult volunteers, including Troop 267’s new Scoutmaster Thomas Annear, mentored the staff of boys in leadership skills.

Participants put into practice such skills such as meeting new people, forming a functioning patrol, using a variety of teaching techniques, resolving conflicts, and making ethical decisions.

It is hoped they will use these skills at home, at school, in the community and maybe even teach the next year’s NYLT trainees.
