Lake Erie Bird Club meeting Monday, members to help with count

The Lake Erie Bird Club will meet Monday at 7 p.m. at BOCES, Fredonia-Stockton Road, Fredonia. Twan Leenders, president of the Roger Tory Peterson Institute in Jamestown, will present the program, “Tropical Bird Banding Project.” All are welcome.

Nineteen members and guests attended the September meeting conducted by Ray Budniewski. Members shared several recent bird sightings, including Great Blue Heron, Red-headed Woodpecker, Indigo Bunting, White-winged Dove, Wild Turkey and others.

Several members shared stories about their favorite birders. Favorite birders were always individuals who helped others learn about and identify birds.

On Saturday, several club members will participate in the annual Buffalo Ornithological Society fall count. Territories have been assigned in Northern Chautauqua County for this count. Others will be counting the birds in their yards and at their feeders. For more information about the count call Joanne Goetz, compiler at 673-1627.

Tom and Joanne Goetz and Robert Halsey provided refreshments for the meeting. For information about the Lake Erie Bird Club, call John and Bev Ruska at 679-9676.
