Celebrating 100 wonderful years of life today is Mary C. (Militello) Vendette
Mary C. (Militello) Vendette was born Nov. 12, 1917 in the quaint village of Westfield to Antony and Jeni Militello, along with her sisters Josephine (deceased), Julia, and brothers Joseph (deceased), Anthony and Daniel. She was raised in Westfield during the war. She graduated from Westfield School and worked on her father’s farm to help the family. She moved to Erie, Pennsylvania to work at a factory producing parts for airplanes for the war. (“Rosie the Riveter”).
She married Michael J. Vendette in 1943. While he served in the Air Force, she lived in South Carolina. She then moved to Dunkirk to be with her mother and father-in-law. After Mike got home and time went by, they had three sons, Michael, Kenneth and Timothy and one daughter, Jennifer (VanValkenburg). Mary is blessed with six grandchildren, Kenneth Vandette Jr. (who passed away in 2011), Dale VanValkenburg II (son of Dale and Jennifer); Kevin Vendette and Nicole (Vendette) Supko (children of Kenneth and Cheryl); Megan and Christopher Vendette (children of Timothy and Linda) and three beautiful great-granddaughters, Emma, Dana and Joana VanValkenburg.
Mary was employed at Fredonia State College, working in food service. She retired in 1990 due to the illness and passing of her husband Michael in 1991.
Mary has enjoyed working in and out of the home, gardening, playing cards and socializing.
Mary still lives in her home of more than fifty years. She has lived a full and happy life for 100 years.
