Grandson of Gowanda residents earns Eagle Scout award

PITTSFORD — Jerald T. “Jerry” Hoppa, 16, grandson of Carol and Tony Hoppa of Gowanda and son of Jill and Tony Hoppa of Pittsford, earned the rank of Eagle Scout with Boy Scout Troop 336 in Pittsford, New York.

Hoppa earned 40 merit badges, including 13 specifically required for Scouting’s highest award. He is also a member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s national honor society. For his Eagle Scout project, Hoppa led efforts in the design, construction and installation of six trailhead kiosks along popular running trails in Mendon Ponds Park, located in Monroe County.

As a Scout, Hoppa participated in a variety of camping trips and outings including Gettysburg, Philadelphia, the Adirondack Mountains, and the inaugural National Jamboree at the Bechtel Summit Reserve in West Virginia. He also earned his SCUBA certification and participated in the diving program at the Florida National High Adventure Sea Base in the Florida Keys.
