Nguyen named Fredonia Rotary Student of the Month for May

Submitted Photo Tina Nguyen is Fredonia’s Rotary Student of the Month for May.

Tina Nguyen was selected as the Fredonia Rotary Student of the Month for May. She is a senior at Fredonia High School. Tina was born in San Diego, California and moved to Fredonia in the fall of 2007. She is an only child and lives with her parents Quan Nguyen and Uyen Tran.

Prior to transferring to the Fredonia Central School District, Tina attended Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic School. In all of her years in high school, she has taken many AP and advanced courses and received the honor roll distinction along with multiple Principal’s Awards. Tina is ranked in the top 10 percent of her class and will graduate with an Advanced Regents diploma.

Tina has played the violin since the fourth grade and is a first violin in the high school’s String Orchestra. She has participated in and was a member of the Pit Orchestra in each of the high school’s musical productions. Tina is also the Vice President of Fredonia’s Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter. Nguyen is also a mentor in the String Buddy program where high school students guide beginner strings that are interested in learning more about their instruments outside of the classroom.

Tina is an active member of various clubs and organizations. She has been a member of Fredonia’s Model UN team, serving as a delegate. She has also had the chance to participate in many community service activities as a member of the Interact Club and National Honor Society. Tina has served as a volunteer in multiple events such as the annual fall sweep, MS walk, Thanksgiving at Friendly Kitchens, and more. She also spent the summer volunteering at the Barker Library for its Children’s Summer Reading Program.

Nguyen had an amazing opportunity to do an internship at Patient’s Pharmacy in Dunkirk for 20 weeks where she was able to observe and perform various tasks that a pharmacist would do on a typical day. When she is not at school, Tina works at her parents’ small, family-run business.

Tina will be attending the University at Buffalo, majoring in Pharmacy with the hopes of becoming a pharmacist in either a hospital or retail setting.

Tina would like to thank the Rotary Committee for the honor of selecting her as Rotary Student of the Month.
