Seventeen seventh and eighth grade band students from the Westfield Band program were selected to participate in the twenty-third annual Chautauqua Middle School Band Day. The students began their day at the event, hosted by SUNY Fredonia, attending a master class with an adult expert on their instrument. They then went to a full band rehearsal, with the 7th and 8th graders each forming their own band of well over 100 student and adult musicians. Each of the bands rehearsed with a guest conductor: Jamie Sigler (Southwestern) conducted the seventh graders, and Brian Hornbuckle (Brocton) conducted the eighth graders. The students were able to sit alongside the adult musicians for their instrument. The students were also treated to a jazz concert between their dinner and the concert. The finale concert was held in King Concert Hall, and the first half was dedicated to a performance by the adult musicians who played a varied program of music by American composers. The seventh grade expansion of the Chautauqua Concert Band performed next, followed by the eighth grade expansion.
