City school district holding pre-K open houses Thursday

The Dunkirk City School District will hold a 3-Year-Old Pre-Kindergarten Open House on Thursday from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at three separate locations.

The Campus and Community Children’s Center, St. Hyacinth’s, 296 Lake Shore Dr. E., Dunkirk. CCCC staff reflects the diverse culture and language of the children and families in Dunkirk. They work to build trusting relationships with families, respecting and supporting each family’s home language and at-home teaching efforts. CCCC teachers, assistant teachers and site coordinator are trained and have received specialized training in developmentally appropriate practices focused on inquiry and play-based learning.

Curriculum experiences build on each child’s interests and natural curiosity while providing daily learning opportunities that support cognitive, physical, and social emotional development. CCCC has a strong connection with SUNY Fredonia and Jamestown Community College.

Chautauqua Opportuni-ties, Inc., Holy Trinity, 1032 Central Ave. Dunkirk. COI has a licensed, onsite nurse available, as well as integrated technology (smartboards, computers and tablets) available to support development. COI offers an open door policy and parents are welcomed to volunteer and participate in classroom activities. Direct access to disabilities specialists to provide OT, PT, speech, etc. as needed. Direct access to other family support services, such as housing, health, fatherhood and life coaching services. COI offers opportunities for program decision making through Parent Committee and Policy Council.

Northern Chautauqua Catholic School, 336 Washington Ave., Dunkirk. NCCS employs certified Spanish, physical education and music teachers. NCCS has a registered nurse available for all students. NCCS 3-year-old prekindergarten students will receive preferred status when applying for the full-day 4-year-old prekindergarten program.

The open house is an opportunity to meet the staff, see the facilities, talk to other parents, and see examples of student work. Bring potential 2- or 3-year-old students!
