Sorority hosts social events and provides lunch for community seniors in Westfield

WESTFIELD — The Jan. 16 meeting of Beta Sigma Phi Laureate Alpha Pi was held at the Westfield YWCA. Co-hostesses were Amy Begier and Priscilla Malarkey.

President Gwen Haskin presided over the meeting. She received a catalogue from International that described the charms, gifts and pins to be ordered for the coming year. Vice President Elena Marsala will be in charge of ordering the items.

The Order of the Rose will be given to the following members: Amy Begier, Linda Bennett, Carol Best, Priscilla Malarkey and Lynn Stetson. The Masters degree will be awarded to Carole Link. Carol Reynolds will receive the Golden Circle Award for being a member for 50 years.

The members cast there vote for the new Valentine Queen and winner will be announced at the Valentine party to be held Saturday, Feb. 25 at the YWCA.

Program for the evening was given by Judy Stratton and Linda Bennett on their collections and hobbies. Judy showed off her beautiful hand-painted collection of tea cups and saucers. Bennett displayed her collection of snowmen and a picture book was passed from her and her husband’s recent river cruise overseas.

The January social was held at Best’s home with Barb Van Dyke as co-hostess. Members enjoyed watching a great comedy movie and enjoyed many delicious snacks that everyone provided.

On Feb. 9, the sorority provided lunch for the senior citizens at the YWCA. A delicious goulash lunch was prepared and served along with Valentine cookies and chocolates for dessert.

The next sorority meeting was held on Monday, Feb. 20 at the Westfield YWCA with co-hostesses Nicole Szymczak and Judi Helman.
