Silver Creek opens its doors to community today
SILVER CREEK — A fun-filled evening featuring food, fine artwork and fundraising is happening at the Silver Creek School District today.
A spaghetti dinner, ice cream social, student art show and sale, book giveaway and other special activities coincide with the school budget vote. The public is warmly welcomed to attend and appreciate the various works of the district’s talented students, grab a bite to eat and enjoy an evening with fellow community members while supporting the district’s mission to build bridges with students linking today’s learning to tomorrow’s possibilities.
Kicking off the evening’s festivities is the annual “Italian Night” fundraiser hosted by the Key Club from 3 to 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The public is invited to relax, enjoy some Italian cuisine and help Key Club members support the community. The price of admission includes a choice of spaghetti and meatballs or fettuccini Alfredo, salad, bread, a beverage and dessert. Tickets will be sold at the door; $7 for adults, $5.00 for seniors, $5 for kids under age 12. Children age 3 and younger eat free. Attendees have the option of dining in or getting takeout.
A book giveaway is set from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the middle/high school gym or the high school lobby.
Every child will have an opportunity to select at least one brand-new book to take home thanks to a partnership between the Silver Creek Teachers’ Association, district staff, and the Board of Education with the collaboration of the Anderson-Lee Library and First Book.
In addition to an array of artwork, pottery and sculpture by all grade levels, the 28th annual elementary Art Show is themed “Daydreaming” and runs 6:30 to 8 p.m. The show includes an additional display by Artome. Artome is a company that professionally frames and displays children’s artwork, creating lifelong memories for the students and their parents. Parents will have the opportunity to purchase their child’s artwork in a high-quality, double-matted frame. Parents can purchase via check and any profits will support student incentives, rewards, and field trips.
This year’s art event will also showcase “The Chair Project,” featuring students’ redesigned furniture. The fifth-grade helpers will host the event, serve punch and act as hall monitors and way-finders. There will be face-painting and a make-and-take activity for parents and children. There will also be an area for photo-strip-making via the Photo Booth app on iPads.
The Parent Teacher Student Association will hold an ice cream social in the elementary school cafeteria during the art show from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and they will sell $1 ice cream cones. Visit www.silvercreek.wnyric.org for more information.
