Dunkirk Exempts donate to the fireboat Cotter
The Dunkirk Exempts Firemen has donated $1,000 to the Buffalo fire boat Edward M. Cotter. The fireboat (Engine 20) is the oldest working fireboat in the United States. The fireboat has served the city of Buffalo for 116 years and is still a working piece of apparatus for the Buffalo Fire Department. Not only responding to fire, it is also used to break ice during the winter months to keep water intakes open. Taking part in the donation while riding the fireboat from Buffalo to the city of Dunkirk are, from left: from the Dunkirk Exempts, Gary Haase; Dean Wright; Captain John Sixt (Buffalo Fire Department); James Hyland (president, Dunkirk Exempts) and Bob Sayers. The Cotter was docked at the city pier on the opening weekend of the Dunkirk Festivals.
