Chautauqua OES Past Matrons hold 100-year celebration
JAMESTOWN — The 100 year 1917-2017 celebration of Chautauqua District OES Past Matrons was held at Alfie’s Restaurant, Fairmount Avenue, Jamestown on Thursday, June 15 at 6 p.m. The Conti sisters of Laona provided vocal and guitar music.
President Beth Benchley of Forestville called the meeting to order and invocation was given by Past Grand Chaplain Martha Woolley.
Reports were given by Secretary Mary Bradford and Treasurer Peg Heiden. RW Lynne Schmitt, associate grand matron and District Deputy Grand Matron Mary Prue were introduced to the 29 members who were present.
Announcements included the July 1 and 2 air show at Lake Erie in Dunkirk. Baked goods in small packages are requested for the visitors. Mary Prue is chairman.
On Aug. 6, a chicken barbecue and car cruise-in will be held at Mt. Sinai Hall grounds in Jamestown. The barbecue is open to the public.
On Sept. 16, a public Swiss steak dinner will be held at Acacia Chapter in Sherman.
Members introduced themselves and announced the years they served the local and grand chapter.
A Memorial Service was presented with a red rose for each departed soul. Norma Youngberg by Peg Heiden; Jared Woolley by Linda Blodgett; Jean Hansen by Wendy Klingensmith; Becky Raven by Georgann Bemis.
Election of officers was held with the following being elected: Sandy Stewart, president; Mary Bradford, vice president; Jackie Olszewski, secretary; and Peg Heiden, treasurer.
Lynne Schmitt recently returned from the state OES meeting in New York City. A national convention for Daughters of the Nile was planned for that evening.
Upcoming dates include a reception Oct. 15 in Binghamton at Grand Chapter; Friday the 20th at Brooklyn for Assoc. Grand Conductress; 21st for Chief of Appeals; 22nd at Otsego; 27th at Cayuga Tomkins West; 28th Grand Patron; Chaut. Dist. Nov. 4 reception for new officers and homecoming for Georgann Bemis, grand representative of Kansas. Nov. 11 Fulton Herkimer Montgomery Dist.
There are 30 Grand Representative positions. If anyone is interested, contact Lynne Schmitt. She has several other dates noted.
On Sept. 23, a spaghetti dinner at Mt. Sinai/Mecca in Jamestown will be a public fundraiser.

Current Order of Easter Star Chapters represented include Acacia from Sherman, Mt. Sinai-Mecca from Jamestown, the Forestville Chapter and the Silver Creek Chapter.
