Summer writing contest underway
PORTLAND — The Town of Portland’s Ahira Hall Memorial Library is proud to announce its Summer Writing Contest. Adults and high school students may submit in person at the library 37 W. Main St. in Brocton, through the mail at P.O. Box 37, Brocton 14716, or email to firstname.lastname@example.org until Aug. 1.
Submissions will be accepted in the following categories: 1. haiku, narrative, or free verse poetry, 2. flash fiction (max 1,000 words), 3. first chapter, 4. memoir (500 to 2,000 words), 5. twitter story (max 140 characters), and 6. young adult fiction (max 3,000 words).
Name, category, and contact information must be submitted with each piece of work. Judging is conducted anonymously by current and retired English teaching professionals.
Winners, adults and high school students in each category, will be announced at the Summer Writing Contest Award Ceremony at the library on Wednesday evening, Aug. 23, at 6 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to contribute and submit. This is a wonderful opportunity to participate in a fun process of writing, imagining, and creating.
