SILVER CREEK — St. Columban’s on the Lake Retirement Home recently dedicated one of its weekly summer picnics to raise $111 for Lakeshore Humane Society in Dunkirk. The picnic featured an auction of desserts prepared by both residents and staff of the home, with St. Columban’s resident and retired auctioneer Marvin Smith leading the event.

Residents of St. Columban’s on the Lake visit Lakeshore Humane Society twice each month, according to Sue McAvoy, the activities director for the home. The Cat Companion Club, a group of resident volunteers, spends time socializing the cats and dogs every couple weeks.

“It’s a great chance to help our local community,” said McAvoy, “plus we have a lot of animal lovers, so our residents love interacting with them. The fundraiser was a chance to do something special for the Humane Society since they bring our residents so much joy.”

St. Columban’s on the Lake Retirement Home is located at 2546 Lake Road in Silver Creek and can be reached at 934-4515.
