NORTH HARMONY — On Saturday, Feb. 24, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy will host a tour of CWC’s Dobbins’ Woods on Bly Hill Road, North Harmony. Participants may snowshoe or ski for this tour around the mile-long looped trail, weather permitting. Otherwise, participants are asked to wear waterproof boots. The event will start with a brief description of this forest site and the role it and sites like it play in providing for healthy streams and lakes. Pre-register for the hike by emailing info@chautauquawatershed.org or calling 664-2166. The public is encouraged to attend. A donation of $5 per person is suggested for non-members. The group and friends will re-gather at the Southern Tier Brewing Company after the tour.

Dobbins’ Woods is 100 acres in size. It was donated to the Conservancy by Willis Dobbins in 1995. It includes moist hemlock-yellow birch forest as well as reforested land formerly in agriculture that was planted in non-native pines and larch and now is transitioning back to hardwood forest. This forest is home to a variety of wildflowers, ferns, salamanders, frogs, toads, insects, birds and mammals. The site is located on Bly Hill Road about one mile west of Route 394 in North Harmony and is open daily to the public from sunrise to sunset.

The Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy is a local 501(c)(3) not-for-profit supported primarily by membership donations. CWC’s mission is to preserve and enhance the water quality, scenic beauty, and ecological health of the lakes, streams and watersheds of the Chautauqua region. It works with landowners to implement science-based actions to protect and improve water quality, reduce flooding and preserve important fish and wildlife habitats. Over the past 20 years, the organization has conserved 1,000 acres for community members to enjoy across Chautauqua County. For information on the Conservancy’s activities, visit www.chautauquawatershed.org or call the CWC at 664-2166.
