Junior Girl Scouts from Westfield’s Troop 20173 are really going places. The girls traveled to Westfield Memorial Hospital recently to work on their First Aid badge. As Brownies, the girls had learned some basics of first aid. Now these Juniors went into more depth about keeping a wound clean, creating a makeshift tourniquet, and immobilizing possible broken bones. In addition, the girls toured the hospital to see the inner workings of their local medical emergency facility, and learned about upcoming renovations to WMH. By visiting local businesses and learning from experts like EMT Dave Davies and WMH nurse Kathy Petroff, these 4th graders earn badges while becoming more connected with their community. The troop includes Lily Hafner, Savannah Frudd, Grace Graham, Brooke Luce, Desiree Bowen and Lilly Teeter.
