Cassadaga Historian speaks at Heritage Village

John Sipos

GERRY — John Sipos, Cassadaga historian and town of Stockton Historian was the recent speaker in a “Heritage” series at the Heritage Village Campus in Gerry. Sipos has been the village historian of Cassadaga for 14 years, and was recently appointed the town of Stockton historian.

Sipos began his talk with a brief introduction of himself, and then the history of Chautauqua County dating back to the Holland Land Company surveying the area more than 200 years ago. Sipos said that the townships began to form, with two at first, leading up to the current 27 towns. Sipos spoke of some of the industries in the county and the growth of the towns. Sipos had on display many picture boards with various old photographs along with many old historical items. Sipos is shown with some of the items he brought for all to see during his historical discussion. A fine talk was enjoyed by all.
