CCHS announces Clear The Shelters

JAMESTOWN – The Chautauqua County Humane Society (CCHS) is teaming up with WGRZ Channel 2 On Your Side to host NBC/Universal Owned Television Stations’ Clear the Shelters fourth annual nationwide pet adoption drive. CCHS will offer the public no-cost adoptions on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. as part of the nationwide Clear the Shelters initiative that seeks to find new homes for homeless pets. The shelter is located at 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown.

This year’s Clear the Shelters event comes after last year’s highly successful effort, which resulted in nearly 80,000 pets finding new homes through an unprecedented partnership between the NBC/Universal Owned Television Stations and hundreds of animal shelters located all across the country and in Puerto Rico. The nationwide day of action literally emptied dozens of animal shelters across the country and inspired local communities to take action and open their homes to animals in need.

New this year, the cats supplied to both the Erie, Pennsylvania and Lakewood, New York Petsmart locations will also have adoption fees waived during Clear The Shelters. The fees on cats at the Petsmart locations will be waived from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18.

Locally at CCHS 39 animals found their forever homes during last year’s Clear the Shelters. Community Relations Director Brian Papalia says “It was an amazing site to see the shelter, nearly empty. CCHS had the highest success rate in Western New York. We are really looking forward to seeing these kind of results again this year.”
