Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution meet

A regular dinner meeting of the Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held at the Clarion on Route 5 in Dunkirk on Sept. 6. The meeting was called to order and the opening ritual performed by Vice-Regent Deborah Cenni. The DAR President’s Message was unavailable and Barb Pietro read the National Defense article celebrating ‘Constitution Week.’ George Washington was the Leader of the Continental Convention organizing and uniting the nation, and ratifying the Constitution in 1787. Washington was then unanimously elected to be the first President of the United States in 1788.

Secretary Myra Johnston read the minutes from the previous meeting. Treasurer Bonnie Larkin gave the financial report.

Congratulations to Lisa Sedlmayer for 40 years of dedicated service to the Daughters of the American Revolution!!! Andy Goodell, Assemblyman, sent a certificate recognizing her service.

The Benjamin Prescott Chapter will be serving as District VIII hosts at the 127th New York State Conference on Sept. 19 through 23 in Rochester, New York. Members are staying at the Hyatt and will be servers at the NYS Regent’s cocktail party and greeters for the Saturday night dinner.

On Oct. 13, members have planned to go to the new Seneca Museum in Salamanca. Plans will be finalized a the next chapter meeting.

A committee meeting is scheduled for Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. at Barbara Pietro’s home to plan for the Chapter’s 120th Anniversary, being held at Chautauqua Institute April 27, 2019. Lisa Sedlmayer has printouts on the founding ladies to discuss.

The next District VIII meeting is Oct. 20 in Olean.

The next meeting is Oct. 4 at the McClurg Mansion in Westfield, at 1 p.m.
