The Tenors, KC & The Sunshine Band and Village People, Amy Grant close Chautauqua Season

CHAUTAUQUA – Chautauqua closes its 2013 season with popular entertainment from distinguished artists, actors and performers, including An Evening with Anna Deavere Smith, The Tenors, KC & The Sunshine Band and Village People, Amy Grant and more beginning Sunday.

Starting on Sunday, the Barbershop Harmony Parade will perform in the Amphitheater at 2:30 p.m. As always, visitors can enjoy free access to the grounds, and parking is free until 1:30 p.m.

Anna Deavere Smith takes the Amphitheater stage on Monday at 8:15 p.m. for Community Appreciation Night with Excepts from ‘Let Me Down Easy’: An Evening with Anna Deavere Smith. Let Me Down Easy, Smith’s most recent production, deals with the subject of health care. It ran for six months at New York’s Second Stage Theater, toured for nine months around the United States and was broadcast on PBS in January 2012.

Smith is known in popular culture as Gloria Akalitus on Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie,” or as Nancy McNally, national security advisor on NBC’s “The West Wing,” but her work in the theater has been a central part of her artistic life. When she was awarded a 1996 MacArthur Fellowship, her work was described as “a blend of theatrical art, social commentary, journalism, and intimate reverie.”

The Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra plays its last summer concert of the season on Tuesday at 8:15 p.m. in the Amphitheater for the second Community Appreciation Night of the week. The performance features renowned guest conductor Jaime Laredo and cellist Sharon Robinson, who is recognized worldwide as a dynamic artist and one of the most outstanding musicians of our time.

On Wednesday, Chautauqua guests have the opportunity to experience the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre on tour in a trio of works featuring the distinct styles of three ballet innovators. The Performance is at 8:15 p.m. in the Amphitheater.

The Tenors, known for world music, opera, pop and folk, perform on Thursday in the Amphitheater at 8:15 p.m. Hailed as musical ambassadors and Canada’s national treasure, the four talented men that make up The Tenors come together to create music from their hearts.

KC & The Sunshine Band and Village People come together in the Amphitheater on Friday for an evening of singing and dancing for the entire family. The concert begins at 8:15 p.m.

American music icon Amy Grant will perform in the Chautauqua Amphitheater on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. With six Grammys, numerous Dove Awards, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and numerous other accolades to her credit, Grant has erased lines between genres and earned the respect of fans and peers with her honesty, vulnerability and creaseless creativity. She released her new album How Mercy Looks From Here on May 7, 2013.

The Dixie Doodlers will play in the Amphitheater on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. for the final performance of the 2013 Chautauqua Institution season.

Tickets for Amphitheater performances are $40. On Community Appreciation Nights, ticket prices are reduced to $20 and Tuesday evening Family Entertainment Series performances are always free.
