Best Picture ‘Moonlight,’ animated feature ‘Sing’ to show at the Reg
JAMESTOWN — At once a vital portrait of contemporary African American life and an intensely personal and poetic meditation on identity, family, friendship, and love — the Academy Award winning movie for Best Picture, “Moonlight” is a groundbreaking piece of cinema that reverberates with deep compassion and universal truths. Anchored by extraordinary performances from a tremendous ensemble cast, Director Barry Jenkins’s staggering, singular vision is profoundly moving in its portrayal of the moments, people, and unknowable forces that shape our lives and make us who we are. “Moonlight” stars Best Supporting Actor winner Mahershala Ali (Marvel’s Luke Cage) and Best Supporting Actress nominee Naomie Harris (Skyfall). Moonlight is rated R and is 111 minutes long. It shows Wednesday, March 22 at 7 p.m.
Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, “Sing” stars Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey), a dapper koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal-some might even say delusional-optimist who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Now faced with the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition. “Sing” is rated PG and is 110 minutes long. It shows Friday, March 24 at 7 p.m. and again as a sensory-friendly showing on Saturday, March 25 at 2 p.m.
During sensory-friendly screenings, the sound will be lower and lights kept up higher to help patrons with sensitivity issues. Also, patrons may move around in the seats and talk during the screening without stigma. Sensory-friendly matinees are sponsored by Kiwanis of Jamestown and The Resource Center.
Coming up in the Movies @ The Reg series are Best Picture nominee “Lion” on March 29 at 7 p.m., the suspense thriller “Split” on April 1 at 8 p.m. and the true story “Founder,” starring Michael Keaton as McDonald’s franchise pioneer Ray Kroc on April 8 at 8 p.m.
