SCCS takes to the stage

Students to perform ‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’

SILVER CREEK — Working for peanuts has taken on a new meaning at the Silver Creek Central School District lately.

Dozens of students and staff members have spent the past couple months rehearsing for the 2017 musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” which is based on cartoonist Charles M. Schulz’s long-running comic strip “Peanuts.”

The Performing Arts Department at SCCS will stage the Friday and Saturday, March 10-11 at 7 p.m. in the district auditorium, 1 Dickinson St. The public is encouraged to attend and support the arts in education. Tickets cost $8 for general admission or $5 for students/seniors.

“The show itself is comprised of different comic strips from Schultz that take on a goofy and light-hearted nature,” said director Carolyn Laurenzi, an English teacher for the district.

The show stars Jonathan McDaneld as Charlie Brown, Taylor Farley as Lucy Van Pelt, Riley Wilson as Snoopy, Sean Marchant as Schroeder, Kristen Wielgasz as Linus Van Pelt and Krystel Schwab as Sally Brown. Other cast members include Moramia Avila, Samelie Avila, Tiffany Denault, Marissa Gristanti, Lily League, Noah Merchant, Madison Mott, Krystal Schwab, Sabrina Seneca and Blake Waller. Samantha Page is the student director.

“This show has always been one of my favorites because of the message it sends: Hope and Happiness,” said Laurenzi. “These characters are here to entertain and give a glimmer of hope in what is normally a dark world.”

Music director and pianist is Phillip McMullen, pit director is Kiersten Roetzer and set designer is Justin Cerne. Special thanks to Joanna Gould, Russ Faraci, and all of the stage crew students.

Some of the many songs include: “Happiness,” “The Kite,” “Beethoven Day,” and “My Blanket and Me.”

The cast and crew have been working tirelessly, including over mid-winter break last month, to hone their performances.

“I am so immensely proud of all of our students that are involved with this production,” said Laurenzi.
