Presidents’ Day Weekend Winter Festival nears
MAYVILLE — The 2018 Presidents’ Day Weekend Winter Festival, organized by the Mayville/Chautauqua Community Chamber of Commerce, is set to take place Feb. 16 to 18 at Lakeside Park, Mayville, and will feature many events and activities for the whole family. The majority of the activities will take place Saturday, Feb. 17 from 10 a.m. until after the 8 p.m. fireworks and Sunday, Feb. 18 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Chili Cookoff is coming back to the festival this year, taking place Saturday, Feb. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the tent. Anyone who would like to participate and enter their chili in this event can call the Chamber office at 753-3113. All participants must complete an entry form for planning purposes. Chili Cookoff entry forms will be available by going to the Mayville Chautauqua Community Chamber of Commerce Facebook page, Presidents’ Day Weekend Winter Festival Facebook page, emailing to firstname.lastname@example.org or calling the Chamber office. The entry forms include the complete instructions for participants.
The Pet Parade will take place at the festival this year on Saturday, Feb. 17 at a new time — 4 p.m. Chamber Member John Savage of North Shore Specialties Refinishing in Mayville has again volunteered to lead this event at the festival. Those who wish to participate should call the Chamber office at 753-3113 to RSVP.
The Polar Plunge, organized by Family Health Medical Services, will again take place at the festival on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. (a new time). Registration for this event begins at 1 p.m. in the tent. Participation forms are available on the 2018 Polar Plunge Facebook page, the President’s Day Weekend Winter Festival and Mayville Chautauqua Community Chamber of Commerce Facebook pages, or by calling 753-7107, ext. 100. Proceeds will benefit the Food Bank of Western New York.
The Festival Logo Scavenger Hunt, a new event started last year, will take place in conjunction with the Winter Festival. Northwest Savings Bank will again sponsor the prizes for this event. Taking place the entire month of February, participants will need to visit all participating Mayville/Chautauqua Community Chamber member businesses, looking for a displayed Winter Festival logo. The code written on each of the logos will be copied onto an entry form next to the corresponding business name. Entry forms will be available beginning Feb. 1 by going to the Mayville Chautauqua Community Chamber of Commerce and Presidents’ Day Weekend Winter Festival Facebook pages, emailing to email@example.com, or calling the chamber office at 753-3113. The entry forms contain all of the instructions and details on this event. Participants who send in their correctly completed entry forms will be entered into three cash prize drawings, with only one entry per person accepted and winners limited to one prize per entry.
Many other events and activities will take place at the festival, including contests with cash prizes, food and craft vendors, Rainbow the Clown, carriage rides by Magic Moments Carriages, Cold Water Rescue Demo by Dewittville Fire Department, snowmobile rides (weather permitting) by Chautauqua Lake Snowmobile Club, bonfire and fireworks Saturday evening, Kids Corner Edible Crafts, Children’s “Candy” Fishing Pond, as well as others.
