JCC’s ‘Speech and Debate’ cast announced

The cast of Jamestown Community College’s production of “Speech and Debate” will include JCC students and community members.

The play, featuring LeighAnn Shaffer, Skyler Dunlap, Triston Vera, Anjelika Yudakova, and Eli Shrecengost-Asher, will be performed at 8 p.m. on March 16, 17, 23, and 24 and at 2 p.m. on March 25.

Dunlap, Shrecengost-Asher, and Yudakova are JCC students. Shaffer appeared in JCC’s production of Hairspray and Vera is a student at Falconer Central School.

Adam Owens will direct the production, which focuses on three high school students who unravel a scandal involving their teacher.

“Howie has just moved to Salem for his senior year, but he already has a secret about the drama teacher,” said Owens. “Diwata is a junior who hates the same drama teacher because she never gets a good role in the high school musical. When Howie accidentally posts a private message on Diwata’s YouTube vlog, Solomon, the overachieving editor of the school newspaper, wants to find the student behind the screen name and break the story before the local newspaper finds out.”

Under the guise of forming the school’s first Speech & Debate team, the three students attempt to find their own brand of justice and expose the truth.
