Chautauqua Art Gallery to hold new works reception
Four of the best
Chautauqua Art Gallery will celebrate the start of its summer season with an open house on June 15 from 5-8:30 p.m. The public is invited to enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and drinks as they view new artwork by regional fine artists. The reception will feature new landscape paintings and notecards by Leslie Calimeri, new jewelry by Karen Schiavone as well as work by photojournalist David Munch. The gallery will also welcome new artist Catherine Walsh, owner of Center Circle Ceramics.
Walsh received her BFA from SUNY Fredonia and currently resides in Jamestown. Her meditative and introspective methods of creating pottery and sculpture add a new perspective to the gallery. Her work invokes a sense of confusion and beauty in the perception of shape with two and three dimensions.
“Since opening the gallery in January we’ve received incredible support from our community and I am looking forward to introducing new work at our upcoming reception,” said Leslie Calimeri, artist and gallery proprietor. “We will have new paintings highlighting our regional landscape and Catherine’s ceramic work will be an excellent addition to our collection, truly enhancing our body of work. Her craftsmanship and organic sculptural aesthetic complements our other artists, especially the hand-crafted jewelry designs by Karen Schiavone.”
Chautauqua Art Gallery opened in January 2018 and showcases fine art and artesian crafts by some of the Chautauqua region’s best artists. The newly renovated gallery is located at 104 Chautauqua Ave., Lakewood. Regular summer hours are Monday, Wednesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
