Opera House cinema series to screen ‘Isn’t It Romantic’

“Isn’t It Romantic,” will be screened this Saturday, April 6, and April 9, at 7:30 p.m. at The 1891 Fredonia Opera House.

The next feature film in the Opera House Cinema Series is the comedy “Isn’t It Romantic,” starring Rebel Wilson.

It will be screened this Saturday, April 6, and April 9, at 7:30 p.m.

Natalie (Wilson) is a New York architect who works hard to get noticed at her job, but is more likely to deliver coffee and bagels than design the city’s next skyscraper. Things go from bad to weird when she gets knocked unconscious during a subway mugging and magically wakes up to find herself in an alternate universe. Always cynical about love, Natalie’s worst nightmare comes true when she suddenly discovers that she’s playing the leading lady in a real-life romantic comedy.

Jane Horwitz, in the Washington Post, calls the film “a visually and verbally ingenious sendup of romantic comedies that wears its candy heart on its sleeve.” Rafer Guzman, in Newsday, calls it “sassy-sweet … with Wilson making the most of her first major leading role.” Katie Walsh, in the Los Angeles Times, says the film “gleefully makes fun of the well-known tropes of romantic comedies, while also satisfying our desire to delight in said tropes.” Rated PG-13 for language, some sexual material and a brief drug reference, “Isn’t It Romantic” runs one hour, 29 minutes.

The Opera House Cinema Series is sponsored by Lake Shore Savings Bank. Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. Active and retired Military can attend for the $5 price of a student admission. A book of 10 movie passes is available for $60 at the door or online at www.fredopera.org. Thanks to the generous support of an anonymous donor, the first 20 SUNY Fredonia students at each screening are admitted free. For more information, call the Opera House Box Office at 679-1891.

The Opera House is equipped with individualized closed captioning headsets for the deaf as well as with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or Opera House staff member.

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House is a member-supported not-for-profit performing arts center located in Village Hall in downtown Fredonia. For a complete schedule of events, visit www.fredopera.org.
