Church of the Living Spirit

On Sunday, Alex Skomra will speak at the Church of the Living Spirit. Services, beginning at 10:30 a.m. and lasting about an hour and a half, consist of a lecture, a healing service and a message service. The public is welcome and there is no gate fee for the service.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua will hear Consulting Minister George Buchanan speak about Humanist Sources on Sunday. In the Unitarian Universalist tradition, the congregation values “Humanist teachings which counsel us to heed the guidance of reason and the results of science…” As those in attendance worship together, they will reflect on the wisdom of these humanist sources. All are invited to attend this service.

Childcare for those under the age of 5 will be provided as requested. Call the church’s voicemail, 679-7944, by Saturday at 5 p.m. if childcare will be needed.

Knights of Columbus Council 5356

The Knights of Columbus Council 5356 will hold a pancake breakfast featuring all you can eat pancakes with real maple syrup at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Hall, 165 Central Ave., Silver Creek on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pancakes will be served with sausage, eggs, hash browns, juice and coffee/tea. The cost will be adults: $7, children under 10: $4; children 5 and under: free. The maximum charge per family is $28. Proceeds benefit the Charitable Fund.

Blessed Mary Angela Youth Group

On Sunday, from 7 to 11 a.m., the Blessed Mary Angela Youth Group will hold a pancake breakfast at St. Hyacinth Lyceum, 15. N Pangolin St., Dunkirk. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, eggs, fruit and drink at a price of $10.

Proceeds for both events benefit the Youth Group convention, and can be purchased at Big Rick’s One Stop, 327 Lake Shore Drive E., Dunkirk.

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 12 Elm St., Westfield, will hold a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper on Feb. 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children under 12, and children under 5 eat for free. Tickets will be available at the door.

Trinity Episcopal Church

On Tuesday, between 5 and 7 p.m., the men of Trinity Episcopal Church will take over the Garland Hall kitchen and cook up some of the best pancakes and sausage, fruit cup and juice/coffee/tea for the public’s dining pleasure. Traditionally this evening meal of pancakes was begun as a way to finish the last of the flour in one’s house as there was to be no risen baking done until the end of Lent on Good Friday, when hot cross buns made with the sign of the cross would appear.

The pancake supper begins at 5 p.m. and the men will cook and serve until 7 p.m. The cost for this “all you can eat supper’ is $7 for adults and $5 for children and students. Children under the age of 5 eat for free. Entrance to Garland Hall is at the back of the church on 11 Day St., Fredonia.

Lent is a season of penitence, quiet and reflection in the Episcopal Church and begins the following day with the service of Ash Wednesday, which this year will be celebrated by The Right Reverend R. William Franklin, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York at the noon service in Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Day St., Fredonia.

St. Rose of Lima

St. Rose of Lima will hold its annual spaghetti dinner on Saturday, March 4 from 3 to 7 p.m. at 11 Center St., Forestville. The cost is $10 for adults or $5 for children. Red sauce and Alfredo sauce will be available. Take-outs are available. call 934-2233.

Fast Lane Warriors

Members of the public are welcome to join the “Fast Lane Warriors” for Christian conversation, fellowship and breakfast. The group meets every Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Fast Lane Country Store, 10 Park St., South Dayton. For more information, call 988-2004.

Lenten mid-week Lutheran services

Traditional noon services will be held every Wednesday in Lent at Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 Porter Ave., Silver Creek. The theme for these six services will be the Six Chief Parts of Christian Doctrine.

In addition, Immanuel Lutheran Church, 40 S. Chapel St. in Gowanda and Trinity in Silver Creek will hold Wednesday Family Lenten Activity Nights from 6 to 7:30 p.m. These evenings will include a light meal, a children’s message, singing and other activities. No offerings are taken at these Family Nights. For reservations, call Pat at 934-4369. The schedule for the Family Nights is as follows: Trinity on March 1, March 15 and March 29, Immanuel on March 8, March 22 and April 5.
