Sister M. Elizabeth Mackowiak to direct Women’s Lenten Retreat Day
A women’s Lenten retreat day will be hosted by the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Adult Education committee on Saturday, March 11. This event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Northern Chautauqua Catholic School, located on the corner of Washington Avenue and Fourth Street in Dunkirk.
The morning sessions will be led by Dunkirk native Sister M. Elizabeth Mackowiak, a Felician-Franciscan sister. Sister has a wealth of experience conducting days of reflection and retreats throughout the diocese of Buffalo. She also leads centering prayer groups as well as grief support groups.
The topic for morning sessions will focus on “centering prayer.” Women will be given the opportunity to explore this ancient form of prayer which has been practiced by Christians for centuries. Lent is a liturgical season which encourages the faithful to “slow their lives down,” and spend time nurturing the Christian spiritual life.
Sister tells us that “in today’s busy world, centering prayer is a tool to help the Christian woman focus on their individual spiritual life. The practice will guide us through the Lenten season, culminating in the glorious feast of Easter.”
Following the morning sessions will be a prayer service and a luncheon.
Pre-registration is encouraged if possible. Call St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish office at 366-1750, extension 6, to leave name and phone number.
All women are welcome.
There will be a $5 fee collected at the door.
