Recently, a small group of young people from St. John’s Episcopal Church responded to a dream of one of their group, David Newcomb II. With the encouragement and work of their Sunday School teachers, the group responded to Davie’s idea to help kids with cancer. On a warm Sunday after church, hot dogs and lemonade were sold on the lawn outside the church. Under the supervision of Brenda Gawronski, Christina Hernandez and Shannon Newcomb, Davie’s goal of $500 was more than exceeded. Over $1,400 was raised for Carly’s Club, associated with Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The little group found that much can be accomplished by a few. Their success has left them planning another outreach project in the future. Thanks are extended to those who supported this endeavor, including the parish family of St. John’s and the community, as well as those who purchased hot dogs and lemonade, or donated financial gifts.
