Art Start invites local community members to get creative with free art classes. Returning for the winter session are community favorites in watercolor, decorative acrylic, knitting and card making.

Capitalizing on the popularity of the Introduction to Lettering held in the fall, a new Broadpoint Lettering class is now being offered. Also new is a scrapbooking class, which will feature basic instruction on layout, use of adhesives, embellishments, stamping and journaling by Kathy Rich, as well as plenty of opportunity for participants to work independently. Participants will be expected to provide their own scrapbook and papers for pages as well as photos.

“No matter what your level of experience or interests, Art Start has something for anyone looking to explore their artistic side,” states Art Start organizer and watercolor artist Ronnie Lafferty.

Art Start has a threefold purpose: creativity, therapy and ministry. Anyone from the community interested in exploring the visual and textural arts is welcome to participate on a first come, first serve basis. No prior experience is necessary. Class sizes are limited. There is no charge for classes but for the Lettering Broadpoint there will be a deposit of $20 for supplies. The $20 will be refunded at the end of the 6 week session when the supplies are returned in good condition. With the exception of Scrapbooking, all materials will be provided.

Classes, except Watercolor, will begin the week of Feb. 5 as follows and run through the week of March 19. All Watercolor classes will begin the week of Jan. 22 and run through February.

The schedule follows: Mondays: 10:30 a.m.: Card making with Kathy Rich; 1:30 p.m.: Beginning watercolor with Ronnie Lafferty
