Church of the Living Spirit

This week’s speaker is Dorothy McCarthy. Church services are held every Sunday in the Assembly Hall on Cleveland Avenue in Lily Dale.

Service time is 10:30 to 12:00 and consists of a spiritual talk, a hands-on healing, a message demonstration, music, meditation and prayer.

The public is invited to attend and there is no gate fee from Sept. 10 through June.

On the first Sunday of the month there will be readings with registered mediums at Assembly Hall from 1 to 3 p.m. Readings are $20 for 15 minutes and $60 for 30 minutes. For more information go to or call Emmy at 595-2697.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua will welcome Dr. Heather McEntarfer and the SUNY Fredonia Pride Alliance to Sunday’s service. This service will include a panel discussion concerning how the current political climate is affecting young LGBTQ people and how we can be supportive in this environment. All are welcome to attend this service.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua is a liberal religious community devoted to promoting individual spiritual development, working toward peace, liberty and justice in our immediate and global communities, and providing companionship on life’s sacred journey.

Blessed Mary Angela Holy Name

Blessed Mary Angela Holy Name presents “Pasta on Fat Tuesday,” on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at the Parish Social Center, 324 Townsend St., Dunkirk from 4 to 6 p.m. The menu includes baked ziti with sauce, sausage, meatball, tossed salad, bread/butter, Polish pac’zki and a beverage.

Tickets are available after Masses or at Big Rick’s One Stop, 327 Lake Shore Drive E., Dunkirk. The cost is a $10 donation. Limited tickets are available. The fund-raiser benefits the parish youth attending the Catholic Youth Conference.

St. Rose of Lima

St. Rose of Lima will hold its annual spaghetti dinner on Sunday, Feb. 11 from noon to 5 p.m. at 11 Center St., Forestville. the cost for adults is $10, for children, $5. Red sauce and Alfredo sauce are available. Take-outs are available; call 934-2233.

Ripley United Methodist Church

Ripley United Methodist Church. 84 W. Main St., Ripley, is hosting an all-you-can-eat breakfast Saturday, Feb. 10, from 7:30 to 11 a.m. There will be pancakes, sausage, bacon, made-to-order eggs and omelets, home fries, biscuits and sausage gravy, orange juice and coffee. The cost is $7. This month’s breakfast will benefit Chautauqua County Rural Ministries.

Trinity Lutheran Church

Well, even if you can’t speak German, we hope you enjoy eating German foods. On Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 13, Trinity Lutheran Church in Silver Creek will be sponsoring a smorgasbord dinner featuring many German favorites. A few of the foods featured will be potato latkes, sauerbraten, beef flatladen, German potato salad, red cabbage as well as many surprises. A freewill offering will be taken to benefit Trinity’s seminary student. The dinner in the Parish Hall begins at 6 p.m. until sold out.

Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14 begins the season of Lent. Trinity will have a worship service at 5 p.m. with communion and the imposition of ashes. Each Wednesday during Lent, there will be two services: one at noon and family night activities beginning at 5 p.m. The family night includes a light supper, worship, music and a craft activity.

St. Joseph’s Church of Gowanda

St. Joseph’s Church, 26 Erie Ave., Gowanda has scheduled several events for February.

On Saturday, Feb. 10, parishioners will hold a sweetheart dinner. All dating, engaged and married couples are invited to an evening of food, drinks, 50/50 raffles and prizes PLUS live entertainment by JB Martin & Smokin’ dog. At 6:30 p.m., a social time will feature wine/pop/beer/hors d’oeuvres, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The cost is $60 per couple. Meal choices are chicken cordon bleu, prime rib or vegetarian upon request. Reservations are needed by Feb. 3. Call 532-5100.

Saturday, Feb. 17, parishioners are hosting a community meal at the church from 4 to 6 p.m. The menu includes chicken and biscuit, salad and dessert.

On Feb. 25, a pancake breakfast is set for 9 a.m. to noon at the church hall. Proceeds will help send parish teens to the 2018 Diocesan Youth Conference in March. The cost is $6. The event is sponsored by the confirmation class and the Knights of Columbus.

Blessed Mary Angela Parish

Blessed Mary Angela Parish will hold an indoor flea market every Wednesday and Thursday through Feb. 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Social Center, 324 Townsend St., Dunkirk. There will be a special flea market on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. to noon. All merchandise is priced to sell. Make an offer!
