Education is precious
Schools on all levels from preschools through colleges will soon be back in session. A few have already started. As Christians, influenced by the Reformation, a good well-rounded education is a precious thing. Not only is it a great benefit towards a better job, it provides many other benefits for our lives. There is so much to learn. The world around us is filled with a myriad of things that education brings to our knowledge and for which we also gain a great appreciation. We gain additional insights into ourselves both on a physical as well as the emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of our being. Relationships are enhanced as we recognize how we are interrelated with other people, with all the flora and fauna of our world, and especially with our God.
There are the other areas of education that also play an important role in our lives as we learn more than just the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic. The arts help us to appreciate the beauty of God’s creation even when seen through the creative talents He has given to others. The sciences open the door to some of the mysteries of the world around us that God has created for our use and enjoyment. And with that, many people are given talents to use what is learned in those areas for making our lives better with all the inventions, technology and other things that bless our lives.
As amazing as some of things are, that we see in our lives now, God only know what wonderful advancements will be made in technology, medicine, and all the various things that affect our lives. Only our imaginations can try to think what they might be. It is that God given imagination, powered by all the tools provided by an good education, that will make all future advancements possible.
God has blessed us with more than just knowledge and talents. He provides what we need to use all of these things in a good way that is beneficial to all people. As we read in various Proverbs of scripture: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” All that God has done for us helps us to appreciate, develop and enjoy all the good things that are around us. So let us, in pursuing a good education, also learn about God and His Son Jesus Christ. As God’s Word tells us in Ephesians 3:16-19; “I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” That is my prayer for you as well.
