Collins 50 Plus Seniors

Activities for the week of Nov. 13 to 19

Sunday: Pickleball with Lois at 6:30 p.m. Painter Center gym. (free).

Monday: Exercises with Pat  at 9 am. Painter Center gym. (free).

Tuesday: Active Senior Aerobics with Kim at 9 a.m., Painter Center gym. (fee for this class); soup/sandwich lunch at noon, Painter Center Yellow Room. $3 buys a delicious lunch of homemade split pea soup, egg salad sandwich, dessert and drink. Everyone welcome! Norwex Seminar after lunch; phone scam seminar at 3 p.m. at the Collins Library. All are asked to attend this important seminar.

Wednesday: Exercises with Pat at 9 a.m., Painter Center gym. (free); Quilting with Florence at 10:30 a.m., Collins Library Community Room. (free); Games and Crafts with Pat at 1 p.m. Painter Center Rose Room. (free); Senior Bowling at 1p.m. at K&L Lanes in Gowanda.

Thursday: Yoga with Suzie at 9 a.m., Painter Center gym. (fee for this class).

Friday: Exercises with Pat at 9 a.m., Painter Center gym. (free); Community Service with Pat at 1p.m., Painter Center Rose Room.

A few seats are still available for the AARP Defensive Driving Class on Tuesday, Nov. 29 from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the L.K. Painter Center in Collins. To register, call 532-2006 ext. 21 and leave a message with name, phone number, and to make a reservation for lunch if desired. Mail the check to: Town of Collins, Box 420, Collins, NY 14034. Be sure to make the check out to: “AARP” and include AARP member number. The fee for the class is $20 for members/$25 for non-members. The lunch fee is $3 and is payable upon check-in on the morning of the class.

Grape Belt Senior

The next Grape Belt Seniors board meeting will be on Monday at 10:15 a.m. There will not be a luncheon in November; however, a holiday luncheon is being planned for December. More details to follow.

All trips, extended as well as day trips, are open to the public; members and non-members. The list of trips is as follows:

Nov. 14 — Seneca Niagara Casino Customer Appreciation trip. Be at the parking lot behind Big Lots at 8:30 a.m.

Dec. 8 — Seneca Niagara Casino with matinee show event “The Platters — Home for the Holidays” — original performers! Be at the parking lot behind Big Lots at 8:15 a.m.  Stay tuned for information on the upcoming day trips for 2017.

Looking ahead to extended trips for 2017, a New Orleans trip is planned for March 14 to 18 and a Chicago trip for Sept. 18 to 21. Fliers are available at the Center for both trips. The New Orleans trip will be by air for five days and four nights. Many sights are planned, including the Historic French Quarter, a steamboat tour along the Mississippi River, a visit to Mardi Gras World, an evening dinner at the New Orleans School of Cooking, and much more.

The Chicago trip will be by coach for four days and three nights. It will include a tour of the University of Notre Dame; a guided city tour including Grant Park and Navy Pier; an architectural cruise along the Chicago River to visit the Biograph Theater, the Holy Name Cathedral, the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, dinner theater at Tommy Gunn’s Dinner Theater and much more.

Plans are being made for a trip to Hawaii early in 2108 and a fall trip to Nova Scotia. The trip to Hawaii will be 10 days and nine nights, including a seven-night cruise to four of the islands. The Nova Scotia trip will be eight days and seven nights with many interesting sights.

Collins Center Seniors

The next meeting for the Collins Center Seniors will be Nov. 28 at the Gowanda American Legion with a pot luck lunch at noon, followed by a short meeting.

NOTE: Dues are $5 per year per person and must be received NO LATER than Dec. 30 to remain a member. Dues can be paid at the monthly meeting OR send to: Mary Strickfaden at 3111 Foster Road, Gowanda, NY 14070.

The motor coach will depart from the parking lot behind the stores on Main Street, Gowanda at 9 a.m. on Nov. 16 for “The Coasters Christmas” show at the Seneca Allegany Casino

The last trip for the year is a customer appreciation day at the Seneca Niagara Casino on Dec. 13. Seats are available.

NEW: Friday, March 31, 2017 the seniors will begin the day with coffee and donuts at Kleinhans Music Hall and then enjoy a performance of “MIDTOWN MEN.” The high-octane musical tour de force that took the JERSEY BOYS phenomenon to Broadway and beyond will bring to life the greatest hits of the 60s, rocking performing arts centers across the continent. The Midtown Men are lifting audiences to their feet with a powerhouse seven-piece band and high-spirited, adrenaline-powered performance as the iconic Four Seasons. Lunch will follow at 716 Restaurant, followed by a stop at Parkside Candies before heading home. A deposit is required to hold a seat.

NEW: Sunday, April 30, 2017 the group will be off to Shea’s for the afternoon performance of “CABARET.” Come hear some of the most memorable songs in theatre history, including “Cabaret” and “Maybe This Time.” This Tony-winning musical is about following one’s heart while the world loses its way. Prior to the show, there will be a delicious sit-down lunch at the Pan American Grill and Brewery at the Hotel Lafayette. A deposit is required to hold a seat.

It is hoped that at the November meeting, fliers and information will be forthcoming about an eight day trip in early May 2017 to Savannah, Charleston and Myrtle Beach.

The Collins Center Seniors will be collecting letters to Santa. The letters will be deposited in a special mail box at Macy’s Department Store. Macy’s donates $1 to “Make A Wish Foundation” for every letter collected. We have collected more than 8,000 letters in four years for this fun and worthwhile cause.
