Brocton Portland Seniors

Brocton Portland Seniors met Tuesday, June 27 at the Brocton Legion. Patricia Zanghi opened the meeting for 45 members in the absence of Margaret Jagoda, President. Sheila Lawrence was welcomed and guest Pat Wilkins was introduced. Committee of the day Rose Giambra, Carm Johnson, Julia Schrantz, Ella Gaffney, Tom DeJoe and Rita Bennett had the mantle and tables decorated in banners of red, white and blue mats, napkins and candies. CJ’s pizza and wings were served, with desserts of all kinds by the committee of the day.

The secretary’s report and the treasurer reports were accepted. The strawberry social held June 14 had 28 people. It was a delicious good time. The Salamanca Casino trip on June 20 with 48 people was a really good time. The beautiful day, buffet and excellent driver resulted in President Jagoda’s decision to get a date in October. A thank-you card was received from Pat Smith, who is in County Care Rehab. There were eight birthdays: Marie Emke, Bennett, Jagoda, Gil Seekings, June Woollett, Lena Elliott, Gen Ludemann and Robin Carr. OFA picnic tickets will be at the July 25 meeting with Becky Blume giving an update on Office for the Aging activities. Carr will look into the cost of a Summer Wind boat ride.

Door prizes went to Marion Delcamp and Pat Zanghi. There were six happy raffle winners.

The next meeting, July 25, is a picnic with hot dogs and hamburgers by Rick Cranston, Bill Norris and DeJoe. Anita Golubski, Ludemann and Norma Burnside will be the committee of the day. Members are to bring a dish to pass and their personal table service.

Collins Center Seniors

The June 26 meeting for the Collins Center Seniors pot luck lunch was extra special with delicious hot and juice baked chicken from Goodes restaurant.

The motor coach will depart from the parking lot behind the stores on Main St. Gowanda at 8:30 a.m. sharp on July 17 for the Customer Appreciation trip to the Seneca Niagara Casino. The departure time and location will be the same for “Summertime Funtime” on July 19.

Aug. 8 is the new and different killer of a “Mystery Tour.” The departure time is 10:45 a.m.

Seats are available Aug. 15 for a trip to the Seneca Niagara Casino.

SEATS are available Sept. 12 to 14 Ohio Amish Country and more. The tour features: Amish Country, Cleveland’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Canton football Hall of Fame, Air Maps Museum, Classic Car Museum, Berlin Shopping, Warthers Carvings in Dover, McKinley Presidential Library & Museum, tour Fannie May and Harry Lundon Chocolates and much more. Final payment is due July 24.

Seats are available on Oct. 10 for “Fall Splendor & Allegany Allure.” Seniors will meet the guide and travel to Kinzua Bridge State Park. Experience the Kinzua Sky Walk and view the magnificent gorge. The trip includes dining at the Historic Kane Manor for lunch. Also planned is a stop at the Flickerwood Winery for a full wine tasting and tour of the Thomas L. Kane Memorial Chapel. Before heading home, travelers will stop at Bell’s Meat & Poultry.

On Oct. 18 it’s all aboard for a “Leaf Peeping Tour” on the Medina Railroad. Group members will tour the railroad museum and enjoy a two hour fall leaf peeping rail ride along the Erie Canal. The seniors will travel first class, which includes lunch. The last stop will be Becket Farms & Viscarra Vineyards.

Suggestions are welcomed for trips in 2018.

Sheridan Happy Seniors

The Sheridan Happy Seniors met in June at their Sheridan club building with 18 members and guests attending.

Club members opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and then sang “The Star Spangled Banner” and their “Happy Seniors” song. Arlene Miller then led the group in prayer, followed by a special pizza for lunch.

The group talked about possible programs for the coming year and enjoyed the company of all the members. This was followed by playing bingo, called by President Joanne Martin and Treasurer Angie Logan.

The club also decided to have a special luncheon at Tom’s Family Restaurant for the next meeting on July 14 at 1 p.m.

Collins 50 Plus Seniors

Collins 50 Plus Seniors activities for the week of July 9 to 15

Sunday: Pickle Ball with Lois at 6:30 p.m., Collins Town Park.

Wednesday: Exercises with Pat at 10 a.m., L.K. Painter Center Yellow Room; Quilting with Florence at 10:30 a.m., Collins Town Library Community Room; Games & Crafts with Pat at 1 p.m., Painter Center Rose Room.

For the Wednesday classes, use the front entrance of the L.K. Painter Center.

The next AARP Defensive Driving Class will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. until 3:45 p.m. at the L. K. Painter Center in Collins. To register, call 532-2006 ext. 21 and leave a message with name, phone number and a reservation for lunch if desired. The fee for the class is $20 for AARP members, and $25 for non-members. Make the check out to: “AARP” and mail to: Town of Collins, Box 420, Collins, NY 14034. The check must be received before the day of the class. The fee for the lunch is $3 and is payable upon check-in on the morning of the class. Class size is limited to 27, so sign up early.

Grape Belt Seniors

Find Grape Belt Seniors on Facebook. Learn about upcoming trips and events. The Facebook page is a closed group: one needs to be a member of Grape Belt Seniors to join the Facebook Group. The board is still collecting dues from new members as well as from current members who wish to renew their membership.

The Grape Belt Seniors picnic will be held on July 19 at Russell Joy Park. Members attending are asked to bring a dish to pass. The deadline to sign up is July 14.

There will be no aerobics and weights with Catherine on July 17, 19 and 21. On those days, Tai Chi will be held at 9:30 a.m.

There will be no Tai Chi on July 12. Readers’ Theater will be held that day. The theme is “Best Summer Ever.” All trips, extended as well as day trips, are open to the public; members and non-members. Fliers for all of the upcoming trips for 2017 are available at the Center.

Day trips with upcoming payment deadlines planned for 2017 include:

Customer Appreciation: Includes $30 in slots plus free buffet. Monday, July 17. Seats are still available. Pay as soon as possible.

Be Bop Doo Wop Seneca Lake: Monday, July 10. Be behind Big Lots by 7:45 a.m.

Yankees trip: Aug. 6. Be behind Big Lots at 8:40 a.m.

Niagara-on-the-Lake: Thursday, Aug. 24. Payment due by July 24.

Magic of Motown: $20 in slots plus free buffet and show. Tuesday, Sept. 19. Payment due by Aug. 2.

Vineyard Express: Sunday, Oct. 15. Payment due by Aug. 25.

Extended trips for 2017: Reservations for the Chicago trip Sept. 18 – 21 are still available. The Chicago trip will be by coach for four days and three nights. It will include a tour of the University of Notre Dame; a guided city tour including Grant Park and Navy Pier; an architectural cruise along the Chicago River to visit the Biograph Theater, the Holy Name Cathedral, the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, dinner theater at Tommy Gunn’s Dinner Theater, and much more. Final payment for the Chicago trip is due July 14.

Plans are being made for a trip to Hawaii early in April 2018 and a Fall trip to Nova Scotia. The trip to Hawaii will be 10 days and nine nights, including a seven-night cruise to four of the islands. There are still reservations available for the Hawaii trip. The Nova Scotia trip will be eight days and seven nights with visits to many interesting sights. Also being planned for 2018 is a trip to Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia.

Stockton, Cassadaga, Lily Dale Senior Citizens

The Stockton, Cassadaga, Lily Dale Senior Citizens will have a picnic luncheon meeting at Duane and Sharon Frudd’s home at 5242 Stockton-Hartfield Road, Stockton on July 10 at noon. Bring a dish to pass, picnic style and personal table service.
