Silver Creek Seniors

“The More We Get Together” the happier and more well-informed we will be. We did and we are.

It all came to light at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the Silver Creek Central School as senior citizens from Mt. Carmel, Sheridan and Silver Creek were warmly welcomed by School Superintendent Todd Crandall, Middle School Principal Eleanor Payne and school Secretary Linda Borrello. Everyone gathered at tables bedecked with symbols of harvest-time and of giving thanks. A traditional turkey dinner that was pleasing to the senses was provided by Dolly from Wolf’s Run Busy Beaver on Route 438.

Crandall spoke on a 2017 Capital Outlay Project regarding the replacement of an elevator in the Elementary School; and discussed a five-year plan of deferred maintenance. There will be a review of specifics in the future. Greg Cole, the president of the Board of Education, reviewed three 2017-2018 Board goals: 1. An increase in graduation rates; 2. Instill character traits in young students; 3. Increase families’ engagement in the school community.

The school chorus, under the direction of Phil McMullen, came forward into the spotlight with vocal and instrumental talents that glowed brightly without flames. Auditorium doors were then opened to the Middle School/High School Band at practice for listening pleasure. It was the best of times: we gave thanks, we learned, we listened and we applauded everyone responsible for our leaving in a happy frame of mind.

The next regular meeting of the Silver Creek Seniors will take place Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. at the senior club house on Route 5 in Silver Creek.
