Silver Creek seniors

Submitted Photo Silver Creek Seniors celebrated September and October birtdays of its members. Sated from left to right: Ed Prowse, Carl Mohart, Joe Ark, Sue Borowski and Joanne Martin. Standing Lorraine Bailey. Missing from photo is Pat Smielinski.

The Oct. 10 meeting was called to order on a day as cheerful as the 23 members in attendance.

Allegiance was pledged to our Flag at the start, and “God Bless America” was sung from the heart.

Lively birthday wishes of joy were sung to the September and October celebrators — Carl Mohart, Ed Prowse, Sue Borowski, Lorraine Bailey and Joe Ark in September — Joanne Martin and Pat Smielinski in October.

After Chaplain Dorothy Miniri offered the blessing with special prayers of gratitude, everyone delighted in a meal of ham and sausage quiche served with croissant rolls and apricot butter. Desserts featured grapes and savory apple crisp topped with ice cream. Our thanks go to the kitchen committee.

Due to stressful times and for the well-being of senior citizens everywhere, President Ed Newman has duly declared these October days as “Happy Days” and we must “Smile” and “Put on a Happy Face” for today and for all days to come. We do ordain and establish this proclamation with no hesitation.

The 50/50 winners were Shirley Sikorski, Mohart and Mary Congdon.

Door prizes were won by Sikorski, Miniri and Enabell Mirando.

Ed Newman called games of bingo, designed to sharpen our minds and keep us on our toes, even though we sat in a sitting pose. It worked! Bingo winners were Lorrie Newman, Congdon, Mary Ann Seibert, Borowski, Ellen Sutehall, Conrad Pawlak and final big winner Miniri.

The September financial report was presented by treasurer Lorrie Newman.

Eleanor Lemiszko fashioned a display of nine baby pictures, kicking off the onset of a fun-filled contest. Bob Sutehall announced the Oct. 21 Makers’ Faire at SUNY Fredonia from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Williams Center. Don’t miss it — Bob promises you won’t be disappointed.

Halloween shall be celebrated on Oct. 31.

Membership in the Silver Creek Seniors is open to seniors 55 and older.
