Grape Belt Seniors

Aerobics and weights with Catherine Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9 a.m. If class is canceled due to bad weather, Catherine will have it announced on WDOE; and will post it on her Facebook page and Grape Belt Seniors Facebook page.

Grape Belt Seniors are helping Partners in Kind to collect hats, scarves, mittens, and gloves (new or gently used) to be distributed locally. To assist with the distribution, clothes pins and zip top baggies (quart or gallon) are needed. Donations can be brought to the Center during classes and during the indoor farmers market. Thanks for helping to keep our community warm.

The next luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 12 at the Center. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to pass.

All trips, extended as well as day trips, are open to the public; members and non-members. Fliers for upcoming trips for 2018 are available at the Center.

Trips planned for 2018 thus far include:

Boston, Massachusetts: Includes Red Sox vs. Yankees game. Aug. 2 to 5. Boston City Tour, Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market, JFK Library & Museum, Prudential Skywalk, Spirit of Boston Luncheon Cruise with entertainment. $250 deposit was due by Nov. 15.

“The Phantom of the Opera:” May 6. Enjoy a sit down lunch at The Italian Village in Depew, followed by the 2 p.m. matinee performance. $152. Those interested in attending are asked to pay by Jan. 27 so arrangements can be finalized.

Mamma Mia!: Dancing Dream tribute group plays tribute to “Mamma Mia” and the music of ABBA. Oct. 30. Seneca Allegany Customer Appreciation Day: June 27.

delLAGO Casino with stop at Sauder’s Amish Store: July 9. Explore this new gaming facility located in Waterloo, New York.

A Dam Good Trip: Aug. 22. Tour Mt. Morris Dam. Lunch at the Big Tree Inn. Wine tasting at Deer Run Winery. Vespers at the Abbey of the Genesee (where Monks’ Bread is produced).

The Drifters White Christmas: Dec. 11. Enjoy a 2 p.m. matinee show of the Drifters singing many of their hits as well as holiday songs.

Shaw Festival Niagara-on-the-Lake: Nov. 18. Lunch at Pillar and Post. 2 p.m. matinee show of “A Christmas Carol” at Royal George Theatre. Enjoy sights of a Victorian wonderland. Proof of citizenship is required. Call by March 24 if interested in this trip.

Thousand Islands, Riveredge Resort, Alexandria Bay, New York: July 15 to 16. Visit Sonnenberg Gardens, Mansion Tour, and wine tasting en route to Thousand Islands. Boat cruise of Thousand Islands with visits to Boldt Castle and Singer Castle. $75 deposit with sign-ups to secure seats. Call by March 24 if interested in this trip.

Extended trips for 2018:

The Nova Scotia & Maritimes of Canada: eight days and seven nights with visits to many interesting sights. Sept. 12 to 19. Proof of citizenship is needed.

Historic Philadelphia and Lancaster County: June 19 to 21. Includes guided sightseeing tour of Philadelphia, Sight & Sound Millennium Theater’s “Jesus,” followed by dinner at Miller’s Smorgasbord, Valley Forge National Historical Park, and more.

David Wendt will be at the Center on Feb. 23 at 10:30 a.m. to discuss the Nova Scotia and Philadelphia/Lancaster County trips. (If the weather is bad that day, he will be present on March 5). He will also be at the Center on Wednesday March 7 at 10:30 a.m. to finalize the Hawaii trip.

Collins 50 Plus Seniors

Activities for the week of Feb. 4 to 10

Sunday: Pickle Ball with Lois at 6:30 p.m., L.K. Painter Center gym.

Monday: Exercises with Pat at 9 a.m., Painter Center gym.

Tuesday: Active Senior Aerobics with Kim at 9 a.m., Painter Center gym, small fee.

Wednesday: Exercises with Pat at 9 a.m., Painter Center gym; Quilting with Florence at 10:30 a.m., Collins Library Community Room; Senior Bowling at 1 p.m., K&L Lanes in Gowanda, small fee; Games & Crafts with Pat at 1 p.m., Painter Center Rose Room.

Thursday: Beginning Yoga at 9 a.m., Painter Center gym.

Friday: Exercises with Pat at 9 a.m., Painter Center gym; Potluck Lunch at noon, Painter Center Yellow Room. Everyone welcome. Bring a dish to pass!

** The next AARP Defensive Driving Class will be held on Tuesday, March 27 from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the L.K. Painter Center in Collins. To sign up, call 532-2006 ext. 21 and leave a message with name, phone number, and to make a reservation for lunch. The fee for the class is $20 for AARP members; $25 for non-members. Make the check or money order out to “AARP” and send to: Town of Collins, Box 420, Collins, NY 14034. The check must be received before the class date. The fee for the lunch is $3 and will be collected at check-in on the morning of the class. The lunch will consist of soup, sandwich, desert, and drink. Coffee and tea will also be available on class breaks.

The trip includes dinner, show, travel by comfortable coach bus, plus a 2 hour stop at the newly- renovated Buffalo Creek Casino ($10 free slot play) all for only $63.
