Fredonia resident earns state award
Shirley Erbsmehl, a Fredonia resident and instructor for the AARP driver safety classes for 8 and 1/2 years has won the honor of becoming the New York State Volunteer of the Month for the month of February for the AARP Driver Safety Program. She was nominated by her district coordinator, Sheila Lawrence.
At the time of her nomination, Erbsmehl had taught 1,438 participants in 58 classes. She was chosen over all of the nominations made statewide across all of the districts.
Although she has many outside interests, Erbsmehl still finds time to teach many classes throughout the year at various locations in Fredonia. She is well known and often participants request her by name. She often has waiting lists for her classes as she is known for her teaching experience and rapport with her students.
Her fellow instructors in District 87 take great pride in working with such a great instructor and extend heartfelt congratulations to her.
