Registration under way for evening healthcare program in Fredonia

Are you a compassionate person who enjoys working with and caring for people? The Adult Education & Workforce Development Division of the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES is kicking off a 140-hour Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide course at the LoGuidice Educational Center on Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, with a mandatory orientation session slated Friday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Becoming a CAN/HHA is a good idea for someone interested in the nursing field but not sure which path to take. Students will learn the skills necessary to care for patients’ needs such as: feeding, dressing, and bathing. Medical terminology, safety, body mechanics, temperature, pulse, safety and infection control, respiration along with communication skills are stressed.

The program hours include 90 hours of instruction in the classroom, 30 hours of CNA clinical/laboratory and 10 hours of HHA clinical experience. This is an hourly program and excellent attendance is required for completion. The class will be Monday to Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuition is $1,475. Funding may be available if eligibility requirements are met.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma, score well on the pre-entrance exam, provide two work-related references, undergo a physical examination indicating the student is in good health and current immunizations, get an annual flu shot, and have a five-panel drug screen, which is required by the start of the program.
