University students assist in community music therapy sessions
NOTEWORTHY Performance Efforts
William Borden gave a performance of two songs, “Put a Lime in the Coconut” and “Somewhere over the Rainbow.” Accompanied by Music Therapy student, Paul Beckford, Lonnie Scheffield sang the popular songs “Mama Mia”; “You are My Sunshine;” and “Lean on me.” as well as a lesser known work, “The Climb.”
These performances are part of the CREATE Music Therapy Program, which is offered this year at the Steger Apartments Community Room. It is supervised by State University of New York at Fredonia instructor Rebecca Warren, M.M., MT-BC.
Scheffield also wrote and performed her own song, accompanied on guitar by Morgan Parnitzke:
Lonnie’s Happy Song
Getting video games and going fishing
Taking walks with people and watching TV
Volunteering and sewing
I like to sing
Mama Mia and Music are my favorite things
I am kind
I am sharing
I am awesome in so many ways 2X
I like mums and having blonde hair
I am giving and love trying new things
Advocating for myself
Dressing for Halloween
I love letting my voice be heard
I am kind
I am sharing
I am awesome in so many ways 2X
This evening of music, song, and charming melodies was recently presented by the local aspiring musicians. These two community members participate in the CREATE Project Music Therapy Program, offered by SUNY Fredonia Music Therapy Department.
After the performances, the individuals participating in the CREATE Project Music Therapy Program and other community members joined the music therapists in holiday song, singing old favorites and a few more contemporary selections.
