Fredonia collecting brush next week

The village of Fredonia will be picking up limbs and yard waste Monday through Thursday.

Collection will begin at 7 a.m. and continue until every village street within the scheduled section has been completed. Bags and brush are collected separately by different crews. All items for collection must be at the curb no later than 7 a.m. of the scheduled morning. In no case will there be repeat collection of areas completed.

All yard waste must be bagged and all limbs and brush must be tied with twine. Limbs and brush must be cut no longer than 4 feet in length with bundles being no larger than 18 inches in diameter. Bundles and bags are limited to 65 pounds in weight. There is no collection of loose material.

Rabies clinic July 15

A free rabies clinic will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on July 15 at the Cherry Creek Fire Department. Residents can bring dogs, cats and domestic ferrets for their shots.

Cruise around Chautauqua Lake

The Southern Tier Classic Chevy Club invites all classic, antique and cruiser vehicles to its annual Cruise around Chautauqua Lake today.

It will start at 4 p.m. with a cruise-in behind Wing City Grille on Route 394, Lakewood.

Leaving at 6 p.m., the cruise will travel west past Chautauqua Institution to Mayville, to Route 430, through Bemus Point, to the expressway Route 86 across the bridge to Route 394 back to Lakewood, ending at the Fifty’s Grill and Dairy on Fairmount Avenue.

This event often attracts more than 100 vehicles and the trip takes approximately one hour. Various fire departments and police agencies will be assisting.

Berry Road railroad work planned

Railroad crews will be making repairs to the Berry Road crossing in the town of Pomfret starting Sunday. Berry Road will be closed to all traffic at the crossing until Thursday. A detour will not be posted.

Chicken barbecue tickets available

The Dunkirk Softball chicken barbecue will take place at noon on July 16 at Promenschenkel Stadium. Funds raised from the sale benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Chautauqua County. Presale tickets are available by calling 366-1061 through Monday. About 100 walk-up chicken dinners will be available until they are sold out on the day of the event.
