Land Bank Open House

Land Bank will host an Open House reception, along with HHS Properties, who have recently completed a rehab of one of the vacant and abandoned homes at 10 Fay St., Brocton. It is scheduled for this Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

Ripley Board of Ed to meet Thursday

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Ripley Central School District originally scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 21 has been rescheduled to this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Business Office (Room 119) of the Ripley Central School for any and all matters that come before the board.

Cassadaga Job Corps announces information

sessions, tours

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host tours and information sessions for interested applicants and their families this Thursday.

They will start at 8:30 a.m. and again at 10 a.m. Cassadaga Job Corps Academy offers no-cost career training in the healthcare, construction and security industries as well as classes to prepare to take the TASC or obtain a high school diploma. Career training programs include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, Certified Nurse Assistant and security.

In addition, the Academy also offers a Job Corps Advanced Training program for LPN, in partnership with BOCES. In order to enroll in Job Corps, applicants must be 16-24 years old and meet income and other guidelines, as well as demonstrate readiness to embark on a rigorous and demanding training program. Job Corps will provide the courses described above, as well as a comprehensive career preparation curriculum to ensure graduates are ready to enter the labor market.

Services for graduates include job placement assistance and transition money. To reserve a spot on a tour or to inquire about admissions, contact the Cassadaga Job Corps Academy by calling 595-4200 and asking for the admissions office.

Blessing of the Animals is Saturday

Blessing of the Animals to be held in Moore Park at Westfield. Feel free to bring your beloved pets and animals for a special Blessing from the Rev. Virginia Carr of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Last Saturday of Sept. at 11 a.m.

Family Open Swim sessions cancelled at Dunkirk High School pool

Until further notice, staff will not be holding Family Open Swim on Fridays from 7-9 p.m. at the Dunkirk High School pool.

Spaghetti Dinner to benefit hurricane victims is Saturday

An “All You Can Eat” Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser for hurricane victims will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Salvation Army at 83 S. Main St., Jamestown. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 5 years. Presale tickets will be available at a savings of $1 each. This event is hosted by the United Senior Council of Chautauqua County and the Salvation Army. For tickets, donations and other information, contact Connie at 763-0544.
