Route 33 to be closed starting Thursday

CHAUTAUQUA — County Route 33 between Davis Road and State Route 394 will be closed to traffic due to Bridge 926 repairs effective this Thursday. A detour will be posted. The closure will remain in effect until the detour signs are removed.

Cassadaga Job Corps announces information sessions, tours

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host tours and information sessions for interested applicants and their families this Thursday. They will start at 8:30 a.m. and again at 10 a.m. Cassadaga Job Corps Academy offers no-cost career training in the health care, construction and security industries as well as classes to prepare to take the TASC or obtain a high school diploma. Career training programs include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, Certified Nurse Assistant and security. In addition, the Academy also offers a Job Corps Advanced Training program for LPN, in partnership with BOCES. In order to enroll in Job Corps, applicants must be 16-24 years old and meet income and other guidelines, as well as demonstrate readiness to embark on a rigorous and demanding training program. Job Corps will provide the courses described above, as well as a comprehensive career preparation curriculum to ensure graduates are ready to enter the labor market. Services for graduates include job placement assistance and transition money. To reserve a spot on a tour or to inquire about admissions, contact the Cassadaga Job Corps Academy by calling 595-4200 and asking for the admissions office.

Town of Pomfret announcement

Town of Pomfret water and sewer bills have been sent out. These bills reflect the new water and sewer rates adopted by the Town Board on July 12. Please view the Town’s website for details. These rates reflect increases due to the contractual rate determined and levied by the village of Fredonia.

Narcotics Anonymous Group meets in Fredonia

The Narcotics Anonymous Group “Freedom in Fredonia” meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. at the Fredonia Presbyterian Church, 219 Central Ave. This is a closed group, for addicts only.

Town Board special meeting Wednesday

The Dunkirk Town Board will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. todayat the town hall, 4737 Willow Road. The purpose of the meeting is to hold a workshop and conduct any other lawful business to come before the town board.

The Forestville Central School District Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting this Thursday in the High School Library at 5 p.m.

Eat Smart New York schedules free nutrition and cooking classes

Eat Smart New York will be offering free nutrition and cooking classes to make Thanksgiving healthier and more affordable, but still tasty at the Salvation Army, 704 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Participants will receive one free item per class to take home with them and will also receive a turkey dinner basket to take home around Thanksgiving time. Each class will include a lesson and a food tasting. Class spots are limited to 15. Registration is required. Call Eat Smart at 363-6050 ext. 229 to register.

Gas Average prices

The national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is $2.55 per gallon, down two cents since last week. One year ago, the price was $2.22. The New York State average is $2.74, down four cents since last week. A year ago, the NYS average was $2.33.
