¯ SHERIDAN — Amanda M. Meritt, 27, of Eria, Pa., was charged with failure to keep right, driving while intoxicated, and aggravated DWI on Friday. At around 5 a.m., deputies responded to a vehicle complaint in the town of Sheridan. Upon arrival, Deputies reportedly located an eastbound vehicle committing traffic infractions. Deputies stopped the vehicle and the operator identified herself as Merritt. Through investigation, it was allegedly found that Merritt was operating the motor vehicle in an intoxicated state. Merritt was issued traffic tickets and will appear in Sheridan Town Court at a later date.
¯ HANOVER — Douglas J. Fairbanks, 51, of Forestville was charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to take a breath test on Friday. At about 12:30 a.m., deputies reportedly observed a suspicious situation that occurred on Rider Road in the town of Hanover. Upon further investigation, it was found that Fairbanks was allegedly operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Fairbanks was charged and remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail on $250 cash/$2,500 insurance bond.
Fredonia Fire Department
¯ Firefighters arrived to a report of a collapsed roof at 131 Central Ave. in the village of Fredonia. Firefighters on the scene stated that tenants of the rented house heard a loud noise and, upon investigation, found that a loft portion of the house collapsed into the attic. Upon recommendation of the building inspector, the house was evacuated and utilities were turned off until such time that the building inspector can scope out the scene.
¯ BUSTI — Daniel W. Weaver, 58, of Mayville was charged with petit larceny on Tuesday. At approximately 9 p.m., Weaver was allegedly found to have stolen a flashlight from the Lakewood Walmart, which was valued at $58. Weaver was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Busti Town Court at a later date to answer to the charge.
