Passenger seriously hurt in Mina crash

MINA — A motor vehicle accident on Sunday led to serious injuries for a passenger, and a number of charges for the driver, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office reported.

At about 3 a.m., deputies responded to a personal-injury motor vehicle accident on Route 430 in the town of Mina. Upon arrival, it was found that the operator of the vehicle, Christopher R. Jones, 22, of Jamestown, was eastbound on Route 430 when he lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, struck several trees and overturned the vehicle. A passenger in the vehicle sustained serious injuries as a result of the accident.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Hamot Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. An investigation found the vehicle’s operator, Jones, to allegedly be intoxicated.

Jones was taken into custody and later arraigned in Sherman Town Court due to the town of Mina judge being unavailable. Jones was remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail without bail, and will appear back in court at a later date to answer charges of driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .18 percent or greater, first-degree vehicular assault (felony) and failure to keep right.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Findley Lake and Sherman fire departments.

¯ NORTH HARMONY — Gary Thayer, 64, of North Harmony was charged with driving while intoxicated and DWI per se on Thursday around 11 p.m.

Thayer was stopped on the side of Route 394 at a business and was reportedly urinating in the driveway. Thayer then got back into the driver’s seat of his vehicle. Deputies approached the vehicle and spoke with Thayer. Subsequent investigation led to the DWI charges.

¯ ELLINGTON — Joielynn Scott, 38, of Randolph was charged with second-degree harassment on Saturday.

Troopers responded to a residence in Ellington, where it was alleged by the complainant and an independent witness that Scott went to the victim’s residence and threatened her life. Scott was charged and is scheduled to appear in Ellington Town Court next month to answer the charge.

¯ STOW — Brian Waller, 40, of Dunkirk, was charged with driving while intoxicated Friday.

Waller was pulled over on Interstate 86 in Stow for speeding, and after allegedly failing several standard field sobriety tests, Waller was placed under arrest. Waller was transported to State Police in Jamestown, where he allegedly provided a breath sample of .14 percent. Waller was then processed, issued tickets returnable to North Harmony Town Court and released. Waller is scheduled to appear in court later in the month to answer the charge.
