Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office
¯ WESTFIELD — Steven F. Kennedy, 35, of Jamestown was charged with failure to yield right of way, unsecured load, driving while intoxicated, DWI per se, third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property on Saturday.
Around 4:30 a.m., deputies observed debris in the driving lane of N. Portage Street in the Village of Westfield. While checking the area for the source of the debris, a box van failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign and pulled out in front of the marked patrol vehicle. The box truck’s back door was also open, allowing items to fall from the truck. Deputies stopped the box truck and identified the driver as Kennedy. Upon investigation, Kennedy was alleged to have been intoxicated and taken into custody.
Further investigation found that the box truck had been taken from a business in Jamestown. Kennedy did not work for the business and did not have permission from the business to be in possession of the box truck. Kennedy was also alleged to have taken consumable items from the back of the box truck while the truck was in his possession. Kennedy was charged and was arraigned on the charges and committed to the Chautauqua County Jail without bail. Further charges are pending from the Jamestown Police Department.
