Deputies spot intoxicated woman smoking cigarette in vehicle in pond
NORTH COLLINS — A Boston, NY woman was charged with driving while intoxicated after her vehicle landed in a pond.
According to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a crash scene at Sisson Highway and Shirley Road after Dispatchers received calls about a vehicle in a pond today around 4:40 a.m. When the deputies arrived, they observed a minivan partially submerged with its lights still on. They also witnessed a female in the driver’s seat smoking a cigarette while being rescued by North Collins Fire Company personnel. When she was brought to shore, deputies spoke with the individual and detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from her.
Sonya Gelster, 37, allegedly failed multiple field sobriety tests and refused to submit to a breath test. Subsequently, Gelster was arrested for six different charges including a felony DWI for having a previous conviction within 10-years.
The defendant is held at the Erie County Holding Center pending her arraignment in North Collins Town Court.
Dunkirk man taken into custody for alleged crack sales
Jason Rosas Rodriguez, 33, of Dunkirk was taken into custody Friday on an outstanding arrest warrant alleging that Rodriguez sold quantities of crack cocaine to agents of the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force within the City of Dunkirk.
The warrant had been issued by Dunkirk City Court Judge Walter Drag.
This is an ongoing investigation into the sales of crack cocaine within the city. As a result of his arrest, Rodriguez was committed to the Chautauqua County jail without bail pending further action of the court.
The Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force is comprised of officers from the City of Dunkirk Police Department and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

¯ Keryliz Rosa, 22, of Jamestown, was charged Wednesday with fourth-degree criminal mischief.
¯ Bryan M. Piazza, 35, of Dunkirk, was charged Wednesday with endangering the welfare of a child.
