¯CASSADAGA — On Sunday at approximately 9:13 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a disorderly person on Smith Road in the town of Charlotte. After an investigation, it is alleged that Shawn A. Cavender, 49, of Smith Road had struck another person for no reason.
A warrant of arrest was issued for Cavender and he was taken into custody without incident. Cavender was arraigned in the town of Charlotte court and remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail in lieu of bail.
¯ SILVER CREEK — On July 28, deputies responded to a warrant check at the Village INN in Silver Creek. Jeremiah C Haas, 40, of Silver Creek, had a confirmed warrant out of the city of Jamestown. At around 9:42 p.m., deputies located a male matching the description of Haas. Deputies approached the subject which identified himself as Haas. Haas was placed into custody. Upon searching Haas, a small red container was found containing a white rock like substance (Methamphetamine). Haas was released with an appearance ticket for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Haas will appear back in Silver Creek Village Court at a later date.
¯ MAYVILLE — At approximately 7 p.m. on Aug. 11, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a location in the village of Mayville for an alleged larceny. It is alleged that David A. Cass made a verbal agreement with another individual, receiving a denomination of money from the individual, and then failing to honor his portion of the agreement. Cass was issued tickets to appear in Chautauqua Town Court at a later date to answer the charge of petit larceny.
Two teens arrested in connection with sexual abuse of a minor
BUFFALO – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reported on Friday that detectives have arrested two teenage males in connection with the sexual abuse of a minor in July.
Deputy Achtyl took the initial reports from the victim’s parents, who stated the suspects forcibly took their child’s bicycle and cell phone, then sexually abused the victim in a wooded area in Springville. The case was turned over to detectives.
On Tuesday, the detectives’ investigation resulted in the arrest of Marcus James, 19, of Collins and a 16-year-old male from Springville. James is charged with felony counts of attempted aggravated sexual abuse and sexual abuse-contact by forcible compulsion, a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.
The 16-year-old male is charged with felony counts of aggravated sexual abuse and aggravated sexual abuse-insertion of a foreign object. Both defendants were released from the Erie County holding center after posting bail.

¯ JAMESTOWN — On Aug. 11, troopers responded to a residence in Jamestown. The complainant provided surveillance footage allegedly showing Ashley Short, 26, of Jamestown keying and egging a vehicle. Short was located and charged with third-degree criminal mischief, following arraignment she was taken to the Chautauqua County Jail.
¯ JAMESTOWN — On Monday troopers stopped a vehicle on Interstate 86 in Jamestown for allegedly speeding. During questioning police allegedly smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver was identified as Jeremy Miller, 48, of Bradford, Pa. and following a search troopers purportedly found two bags containing five grams of marijuana. Miller was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and released. He is due to appear in the Ellicott Town Court later in the month.
